Build-in-public

Public-filings teardowns.
Real AI systems.

Every two weeks I read a recognizable company's filings, find the operational bottleneck they've said publicly they need to solve, and build the AI system I'd build if I were on their team. Outside-in, synthetic data, open-sourced at the end.

Two series, alternating. If I Ran This — recognizable B Corps and mission-driven public brands. Day One — the kind of SMB you might just have bought.

Vital Farms

An AI-assisted farmer-acquisition system: triage agent, financing pre-qualifier, and a network dashboard — built from the FY2025 filings.

From the filings

FY2025: $759M revenue, +25%. Stated $2B-by-2030 target. CEO: expanding the farmer network "reduced the supply constraints that previously capped our growth." Supply was the ceiling — farmers are the supply.

  • Triages inbound farmer applications against real fit criteria — geography, capacity, welfare, finance.
  • Models the build economics for the farmer, not just the company — the empathy beat a generic lead-scorer never builds.
  • Pipeline dashboard against the implied 2030 target; outreach queue with status, contact tracking, and a one-click follow-up.

What's next in the cycle.

A menu, not a roadmap. I swap when something stops being fun — my enjoyment is what keeps this going for two years, not two months.
